It is heavily rooted and influenced by traditional goths, gothic music, aesthetic and philosophy; Nu-Goth embraces all genres of dark introspective music and art. Its followers are deeply philosophical by nature, believing philosophy and choice are what defines oneself, and have a great interest in studying the human mind. Nu-Goths are deeply philosophical with common interests often including Psychology, Philosophy, Music, Religion, Fashion, and the Occult. For this reason occult clothing, symbology, and sacred geometry is a key part of the Nu-Goth aesthetic and fashion sense.
PERSONALITY / PHILOSOPHY / RELIGIOUS BELIEF
Disclaimer: This is merely a broad general spectrum for Nu-Goths as a collective and does not reflect Nu-Goths as an individual which may have different philosophies and religious beliefs. No two Nu-Goths will be the same, but all harbor some commonality.
They can be a little intimidating at first but they have a less gloomy and cold attitude than Trad Goths, tend to open up more if an individual meets their expectations, usually being one who is, funny, the same as them, charismatic, or of like-minded intellectuals. They are people who are quite grounded in reality tending to be realistic rather than idealistic. This misconception usually brands them as pessimistic but they think a lot about the circumstances of the world they live in. They're progressive and embrace change relatively well. Nu-Goths are known to welcome Baby Bats & Mall Goths to their subculture and are more lenient on the Bands and taste in music compared to their Trad Goth counterpart; Who have been increasingly known for gatekeeping when it comes to the Goth Scene. They do entitize that it does help to have some knowledge on particular bands (You can read down below) in order to grasp their culture more on the musical side. Usually those who are under the Nu-Goth Umbrella are Corp Goths, Geek Goths, Health Goths, and Trad Goths who wish for a less intense aesthetic. Despite their dour outlook on life, Nu-Goths possess a strong sense of responsibility and duty within oneself and those around them. Despite their introverted nature they can be good leaders and role models if need be.
Most Nu-Goths share a philosophy of Nihilism, Existentialism, and a hint of Fatalism. Often they perceive life as something to be explored within themselves and to find who they are and the role they play in their lives. Ultimately agreeing that in the end it may all be meaningless but it doesn't mean one should not enjoy themselves until their time to depart the world comes. They're often the ones who think too much about the future and the human psyche to a point of "Mad Scientist" level fascination. Despite being ALT and breaking the norm they will be the first to admit that in the end everyone is sheep.
Most Nu-Goths don't have a set-in-stone religion often being Agnostic Theist, not being too sure if a god truly exists. Others may be Athiest there are some lowkey Satanists in the Nu-Goth spectrum but usually only goes as far as a fascination for Death, the Underworld, and Baphomet. Some believe that there is no Heaven or Hell but entertain ideas of being one. Some believe in Reincarnation and some believe when death comes there is nothing afterwards. Despite not having a faith, they can still be seen praying to any higher power and using religious terminology.
