Rivithead, or Industrial, is a style that also branched off of Punk, but doesn't really like to call itself Goth. Even though they don't want to be associated with the Goth subculture, a lot of their kinds of fashions, such as corsets, trench coats, platform books, vinyl pants and masks can be found in Goth shops. Many people will easily mistake them for Goth, although they'll quickly tell you otherwise. The typical industrial bands are things like Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein (a favorite of mine) or Ministry. These people are a little closer to Punk than the rest of the Goth subculture, going a little more hardcore, although they can easily resemble Cyber Goths without the neon colors. Many might have dreads or other kinds of gadgets on their clothing. A common theme in the style is an out of control, "chaotic" theme with mismatching patches of fabric or trench coats and cyber masks that give off a more hardcore air than Trad Goth and helps differentiate it from the usual Goth styles, edgy or elegant.
What's its connection to Goth?
These people will deny being connected to Goths, but their style is what makes people get the two peoples confused. The Rivithead fashions can be found in Goth stores and worn by other Goths since they're predominantly black and may have ties to Cyber fashion.
Think Rivithead/Industral is more your thing?
- You don't want to be associated with Goth
- You love the more hardcore, edgy, chaotic music and aspects
- You like Industrial music or techno
- You like darker and more morbid themes
If these things appeal to you, you may like the Rivithead scene, but you are you, and you only! You don't have to make yourself fit any mold, you can create your own, and that's the beauty of these subcultures and types!
