When everything in the world is becoming categorized and not being labeled gets you “lost”. Even Goths have subgenres. (the tragedy! the horror! the irony?!) Goth subgenre names are not something that is made up. It is a culture brought down and accepted by many in the community. And it becomes known as an obvious differentiation from the others and it becomes acceptable to differentiate these different archetypes. I read in Goth Craft by Raven Digitalis, all the different Goths there were. But I noticed that none represented me. Brightly colored hair, usually, red, purple, blue black or platinum; heavy cat eye make-up, sometimes with bright lids, not to forget the sequins and glitter; and black clothes with a pop of color like a sultry leopard print jacket or bright vinyls. I am referring to the like of Shirley Manson of Garbage. I found it odd that there was no archetype for this because you see them at every MAC counter. From the beginning they listened to Industrial like Depeche Mode, then stepped it up with a dance beat like New Order. And so on they progressed and evolved into Trip-Hop, EBM, and Cyber Goth. So I was learning about Gothic origins, the barbarians they were named after; the Ostrogoths and the Visigoths. And something popped in my head… Vista Goths. Vista like new and accelerated. And reanimated by the ancestral tribe of Visigoths, making it old and ingrained yet always new and flourishing. It was perfect. I hope that everyone will accept this term. I wish for all your blessings. Because its not about who I am. It’s about who WE are and how we will never be lost.
